2017 SPORTSMAN RULES

 

CRATE 602 WEIGHT:

A.  2400lbs.  with driver.

 

 

ENGINE:

A.    These engines are sealed at the intake manifold, cylinder head, front cover, and oil pain with special twist off bolt heads.  Crate engines must not be altered, modified, or    changed  from factory specs.

B.    The penalty for anyone tampering with, or modifying any internal engine parts, changing the parts from stock as delivered sealed from the factory will be subject to expulsion from any racing event for the remainder of the season. This can also be reason for a fine or suspension  from the  track.

C.    No changes are allowed to the engine, intake manifold, heads, valve covers, front cover,  oil pan, harmonic balancer or any other part/or parts on/in    engine.

D.    No vacuum pumps.

E.    All crate engines must remain stock as they came sealed from the factory. Crate engines must not be altered, modified or changed from the factory specs. Must meet GM/Crate USA engine specs

 

 

CARBURETOR:

A.    Any 4-barrel carburetor.

B.    Engine must be naturally  aspirated.

C.    May use one carburetor spacer (1" maximum) and two standard paper gaskets (maximum 0.070-inch-thick), one gasket between intake to spacer and one gasket between spacer to  carburetor.

 

 

FUEL SYSTEM·

A.    Stock type fuel pumps Carter M4891 or equivalent ONLY mounted  in stock  location Belt driven pump add 50 lbs. No electric pumps   permitted.

B.    Pump gas, Sunoco GT98 unleaded, Sunoco Blue or Sunoco Purple only.

C.    NO VP CHP, NO ALCOHOL, NO NITROUS OXIDE, NO E85, GAS ONLY.

D.    Any fuel with a specific gravity of .762 or greater will    be disqualified.

 

IGNITION SYSTEM·

A.    Any Electronic Ignition System, MSD or HEI.

B.    NO billet distributor.  No magnetos.

C.    NO traction control.

 

EXHAUST SYSTEM·

A.  Collector type headers ONLY. NO 180, zoomies, Tri-Y or merged  collector headers.

 

TRANSMISSION:

A.   Standard 4 speed or automatic transmission. After market SAFETY bell housing and automatic cases permitted.

B.    Bert  or Brinn Transmission allowed.

C.    Transmissions must have 2 working forward and a reverse gear.

D.   NO Tex, Jerico, or quick change transmissions.

E.    Ball spline transmission's Mandatory to run a carbon fiber drive shaft. This is a safety requirement.

 

REAR END:

A. Standard quick change rear end permitted. No Titanium or exotic material axles, spools, gears, or other materials inside rear end.

 

ENGINE POSITION:

A. 6 ½" from center of ball joint to #1 spark plug,½" tolerance. 501b weight penalty for every½" out of tolerance mounted in front of water pump.

 

FRAME:

A.   103" wheelbase minimum, I" tolerance.

B.    Any Late Model Chassis allowed, Square tube or Round tube. NO aluminum frames, square tube frames must be a minimum of 2"x 2" tubing, round tube must be a minimum of 1 ¾" tubing. Full racing roll cage mandatory, 1 ½ OD x .090 steel tubing minimum.

C.    Stock front clip cars allowed with stock 602 engines only.

 

SUSPENSION:

A.   One working shock per wheel except left rear. NO single adjustable or double adjustable shocks allowed. NO canister style or remote adjustable shocks permitted. NO externally adjustable shocks.

B.    May run 1 of the following rear suspensions, 5th coil or torque link, NOT both. 1 90/10 shock allowed to be mounted top ofrear end.

 

BODY.

A.   NeSmith Crate Racin USA body rules apply.

B.    Light tube bracing behind bumpers. NO pipes or push bars in front of bumpers.

C.    Spoiler 8" maximum height, 8" maximum width on side pods.

D.   Must have front and rear tow hooks.

E.    All Body Panels Must Be Solid, No Holes, Slots or Air Gaps.

 

WHEELS AND TIRES:

A.   Any Wheel, 14"  maximum width   Beadlock permitted  any position.

B.    Wide 5 wheels and adapters permitted.

C.    Hoosier, Spec 21, Spec 55, Crate 21, Crate 55, Spec 1350 or Spec 1600. Option for right rear only Spec 70 or NRM 70.

PROTEST:

1.  TOP OF ENGINE 602: $400

2.  BOTTOM 602: $400

3.    TIRE SAMPLE PROTEST: EACH TIRE $100 MUST FINISH IN TOP THREE

4.    SHOCK PROTEST $200 PER SHOCK.

 

SAFETY:

1.    ALL CARS MUST HAVE FULL CONTAINMENT SEAT.

2.    ALL DRIVERS MUST HAVE A HEAD AND NECK RESTRAINT.

3.    FULL DRIVING SUIT, RACING GLOVES, AND RACING SHOES MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES.

4.    ALL CARS MUST HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN DRIVERS COMPARTMENT.

5.    FIRE BOTTLE SAFETY SYSTEMS OK.

 

ENGINE:

1.        GM 602 ONLY PART NUMBER 88958602/19258602

2.             ALL ENGINES MUST BE SEALED WITH FACTORY GM SEALS OR BY AN AUTHORIZED ENGINE BUILDER.

3.             ENGINE MUST HAVE FAN BLADES AT ALL TIMES.

4.             ENGINE MUST BE RUNNING IN STAGING LANES PRIOR TO QUALIFYING.

5.             ABSOLUTLETY NO POWER ADDERS! (NITROUS, CHEMICALS, SUPERCHARGERS, ETC.)

 

CARBURETOR:

1.    ANY 750 CFM OR SMALLER.

2.    MAY USE 1" SPACER, .040 TOLERANCE  MAXIMUM.

 

EXHAUST:

1.    COLLECTOR TYPE HEADERS ONLY. ALL FOUR TUBES INTO ONE COLLECTOR OF A CONSISTENT DIAMETER.

2.    NO TRI-Y, 180 DEGREE, OR MERGED HEADERS ALLOWED.

3.    NO SQUARE  TUBE  HEADERS ALLOWED.

 

IGNITION/DISTRIBUTOR:

1.  REI, MSD 6AL or 6ALN box  only.

 

STARTER:

1. ALLCARS MUST HAVE A WORKING STARTER

 

FUEL -  FUEL PUMP

1.    PUMP GAS OR RACING FUEL ONLY.

2.    NO ALCOHOL OR METHANOL

3.    STOCK MOUNT MECHANICAL FUEL PUMPS ONLY, REAR DRIVE FUEL PUMPS ADD 50LBS.

 

COOLING SYSTEM:

1.    CAST IRON OR ALUMINUM STOCK MOUNTED WATER PUMP ONLY.

2.    NO ELECTRIC FANS

3.    NO ELECTRIC WATER PUMPS

 

TRANSMISSION:

1. ANY: MUST HAVE WORKING CLUTCH, FORWARD AND REVERSE GEARS.

 

BRAKES:

1. STEEL BRAKE ROTORS ONLY. NO CARBON FIBER BRAKES.  NO TITANIUM  BRAKES OR OTHER  EXOTIC  MATERIAL  BRAKE SYSTEMS.

 

DRIVESHAFT:

1.    CARBON FIBER

2.    ALUMINUM

 

WHEELS:

1.  14" MAXIMUM.

 

TIRES:

1.    HOOSIER ONLY

2.    SPEC. 1350 AND 1600, OR CRATE  21.

3.    NO GROOVING, SYPHING, OR NEEDLING

4.     GRINDING OF TIRES OK. 

5.    NO CHEMICALS.

6.    TIRE PROTEST $100 (Top 3 Only)

 

SUSPENSION:

1.    STANDARD LATE MODEL SUSPENSIONS ONLY. NO SPRING LOADED OR SHOCK TYPE 4 BAR RODS. ONLY STANDARD SOLID BAR 4 BAR RODS. NO TORSION BAR FRONT OR REAR SUSPENSION. SWAY BAR OK.

2.    STANDARD ONE PIECE BIRD CAGES; NO SPLIT BIRD CAGES.

3.    1 MECHANICAL TRACTION DEVICE ALLOWED. EITHER 5 TH COIL OR TORQUE LINK, NOT BOTH. ONE 90/10 ALLOWED WITH TORQUE LINK, MOUNTED CENTER TOP OF REAREND TO FRAME.

4.    ONE COIL SPRING PER WHEEL. NO BUMPSTOPS AND NO STACK SPRINGS ON ANY CORNER INCLUDING 5 TH COIL. ONE SHOCK AND ONE SPRING PER CORNER OF CAR.

 

SHOCKS:

1.    SHOCKS, AT ANY POSITION ON THE RACE CAR, INCLUDING LIFT BAR OR TORQUE ARM SHOCKS, MUST BE CONSTRUCTED OF MAGNETIC STEEL OR ALUMINUM. SHOCKS OF THE "THRU ROD" STYLE ARE NOT PERMITTED. SHOCKS MUST HAVE CONCENTRIC, ONE PIECE BODY, AND TAKE APART ON ROD END ONLY. NO REMOVABLE GAS HEADS. NO ADJUSTABLE SHOCKS. NO REMOTE RESERVOIR OR CANNISTER SHOCKS. NO SCHRADER VALVE SHOCKS. NO PIERCING VALVES. NO REMOTE ADJUSTMENT OF SHOCKS IS PERMITTED, INCLUDING ELECTRONIC ADJUSTMENT WHETHER HARD-WIRED OR WIRELESS. SHOCK/DAMPER DEVICES THAT ARE, OR THAT CAN BE REFERRED TO OR DEFINED AS AN "INERTER" OR REFERRED TO OR DEFINED AS A "J-DAMPER" ARE NOT PERMITTED ANYWHERE ON THE CAR.

2.    ONE SHOCK PER WHEEL ONLY. THIS INCLUDES LEFT REAR.

3.    SHOCK CLAIM: $200 PER SHOCK. CAR CLAIMING SHOCKS MUST FINISH IN TOP 3.

 

Spoilers:

1.  8" MAXIMUM

 

Steering:

1.  P/S PUMP CAN BE REAR MOUNTED
